https://un-pub.eu/ojs/index.php/pntsbs/article/view/9096

Diabetes mellitus is one of the most common health issues in society that is caused by population growth and urbanization, has an ever-growing prevalence depending on lifestyle changes, obesity, and sedentary lifestyle, and causes morbidity and early mortality. This study was conducted as a descriptive correlational study to determine the correlation between the health perception of individuals diagnosed with diabetes mellitus and their attitudes toward diabetes. The study was carried out with the participation of 242 diabetes mellitus patients receiving treatment in a university hospital in Samsun province between 1 August 2017 and 1 February 2018. In the study, the data were collected via a survey form. In the evaluation of the data, percentage calculation, independent samples t-test, one-way analysis of variance, Kruskal-Wallis Test, and Mann-Whitney U Test were used. In line with the findings obtained, it was determined that the individuals diagnosed with diabetes had a moderate level of health perception and positive attitudes toward diabetes.

Keywords: Attitude; diabetes mellitus; health; perception.
Merve ÇimenaTuğba Kavalalı ErdoğanZeynep SağlamZeliha Koç

https://un-pub.eu/ojs/index.php/pntsbs/article/view/9097

Hemodialysis is now the preferred method in the treatment of kidney failure. Patients who do not adhere to the diet during hemodialysis may experience negative changes in fluid-electrolyte balance. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between restricted fluid intake and the quality of life of hemodialysis patients in our country. The study was conducted with 186 hemodialysis patients, treated as outpatients in the hemodialysis unit of a university hospital in Samsun and as inpatients in the nephrology clinic. Data were collected using a questionnaire that included 23 questions on patients' sociodemographic and clinical characteristics, the SF-36 Short Quality of Life Scale, and the Dialysis Diet and Fluid Restriction Nonadherence Questionnaire. Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U tests were used for analysis of quantitative data while Spearman correlation coefficient was used for correlation analysis. In line with the evidence obtained, it was established that there was a negative correlation between the status of non-compliance to dialysis diet and fluid restriction and the quality of life of individuals on hemodialysis treatment.

Keywords: Diet; hemodialysis; fluid restriction; quality of life.
Eda Nur YılmazCansev BalSevil Masat HarbaliZeynep SağlamZelih Koç

The data were collected by using a 17-question information form prepared by the researcher in line with the literature, which determines the socio-demographic and communication skills of the nurses, and the Toronto Alexithymia Scale and the Health Professionals Communication Skills Scale. The conformity of the data to normal distribution was evaluated by Shapiro-Wilk and Kolmogorov Smirnov tests. Kruskal Wallis test, Mann Whitney U test, One-Way Analysis of Variance, and independent sample t-test were used in data analysis. In line with the findings obtained from this study, it was determined that intensive care nurses with high levels of alexithymia had low communication skills.

Keywords: Alexithymia; communication; communication skills; nurse; intensive care.
Ibrahim Salih PalazogluEsra DanaciZeliha Koc

The experience of pain in cancer is widely accepted as a major threat to the quality of life, and the relief of pain has emerged as a priority in oncology care. The study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of the care bundle approach on neuropathic pain and the knowledge of home safety measures using chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy. A true experimental repeated measure design was used for this study. One hundred and twenty cancer patients receiving cancer chemotherapy were selected in this study. In the present study, health teaching was given on home safety measures by handout presentation among patients receiving chemotherapy drugs. The neuropathic pain in the pre-test and post-test in control and experimental groups were analyzed by the Mann-Whitney rank sum test. It is the responsibility of the oncology nurse to develop a plan of care to manage the symptoms of Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy, keep the patient safe, and allow them to continue cancer treatment.

Keywords: Care bundle; cancer; chemotherapy; neuropathic pain.
Kavitha Kumaresan

https://un-pub.eu/ojs/index.php/pntsbs/article/view/9110

The use of nursing diagnoses plays an important role in assessing nursing outcomes, improving patients' quality of life, and developing nursing practices. This study aimed to determine the perception of nursing diagnoses by nurses working in a government hospital. The study was conducted with 170 nurses working in a government hospital who were willing to participate in the study. Data were collected using a 24-question questionnaire that captured the socio-demographic and work-life characteristics of the nurses and the nursing diagnosis perception scale. This scale consists of 26 Likert-type items. A minimum of 1 and a maximum of 5 points can be scored on the scale. A low total score on the scale indicates that nurses perceive nursing diagnoses positively. Percentile calculation, Kruskal Wallis, Mann Whitney U-test, t-test, and Cronbach's alpha coefficient were used to analyze the data. In this study, results showed that nurses have a moderately positive perspective on perceiving nursing diagnoses.

Keywords: Nurse; nursing care; nursing diagnoses; perception
Abdullah ÇağaGülşah KayaTuğba Kavalalı ErdoğanZeynep SağlamZeliha Koc
