Analysis efficiency of public hospitals of metropolitan municipalities in Turkey

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to determine efficiency level of public hospitals of 30 metropolitan municipalities which depend on Turkey Ministry of Health Institution Public Hospital (THIPH) by using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). The DEA models targeted output maximization consist of 4 inputs (The actual number of beds, number of doctor, number of assistant doctors, annual working capital) and 4 outputs (total number of medical examination, total number of surgeries, bad turnover). DEA results showed that 16 public hospitals of metropolitan municipalities were efficient but others were inefficient. The metropolitan municipalities whose public hospitals were efficient included cities from east of Turkey such as Mardin, Urfa, Van, as well as İstanbul, Ankara, Bursa from west side of Turkey. According to results of this study it can be recommended for inefficient public hospitals they should be increase theirs bed turnover.
